My students will learn the fundamentals of visual art, both technique and content, as they learn to express themselves through art.
- To implement the visual art standards set by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
- To implement the curriculum map established by Mrs. Lovely and Mrs. Hendy.
- To work with the students, at the students' individual ability level and at each learning style.
- Students will implement art techniques, through the introduction of those techniques by the teacher, providing the students with another vehicle in which to express themselves.
Night of the Arts
The "Night of the Arts" will take place in January for grades 4-6 (Roderick Cafeteria) and in May for grades K-3 (Delaney Cafeteria). This will be a wonderful opportunity for many of our students to proudly exhibit and share their art work.
If you are willing to volunteer time in the preparation for the "Night of the Arts" and/or in your child's art class please contact Mrs. Lovely at LovelyA@wrentham.k12.ma.us. Principles of Art
| EMPHASIS|| Areas in a work of art which dominate the viewer's attention. These areas usually have contrasting sizes, shapes, form, texture and space.|
| BALANCE|| The arrangement of parts of an artwork to create a sense of equality in visual weight (color and/or form size) or interest.|
| HARMONY|| The arrangement of elements of a composition in a way that creates a feeling of unity pleasing to the eye.|
| VARIETY|| A change in form, shape, detail or appearance that makes an object different from others. This can be accomplished by using differerent lines, shapes, textures and colors.|
| MOVEMENT|| A way of combining visual elements to produce the illusion of action or to cause the viewer's eye to sweep over the work in a definite manner.|
| RHYTHM|| A type of visual or actual movement in an artwork. A rhythm is usually created by repeating visual elements.|
| PROPORTION|| The relation of one object to another with respect to size, amount, numbers or degree.|
| UNITY|| A feeling that all parts of a design are working together as a team.|
Elements of Art
| FORM|| Any three-dimentional object. A form can be measured by height, width and depth. It also refers to the structure or design of a work.|
| LINE|| A continuous mark with length and direction, created by a point that moves across a surface. A line can vary in length, width, direction, curvature and color.|
| SHAPE|| A flat surface created when lines meet to enclose a space. Shapes are either geometric or organic.|
| COLOR|| The color spectrum includes red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Colors are divided into primary colors (red, yellow, blue). secondary colors (orange, green, purple) and by warm and cool colors.|
| TEXTURE|| Refers to the way a surface feels to the sense of touch or the way a surface looks like it feels (simulated texture).|
| VALUE|| This is the darkness of the lightness of a surface. Tints are light values of pure colors. Shades are dark values of pure colors.|
| SPACE|| This refers to the empty of open area between, around, above, below or within objects. Space is two-dimensional or three-dimentional and is either positive or negative.|
